BLAKEBURN UPDATE

Saturday, June 16, was a damp day on the mountain. But, those who choose to participate in the free tour had a good time. We covered most of the Blakeburn site. The main roads were in excellent condition. Compliance was not working that day, and they have only a few weeks of coal left to truck out. A considerable number of trees have fallen upon the trail to Anchor Hill, we cleared some, but a chain saw is needed for the remainder. The final trail up to Anchor Hill has been reflagged and is in very good condition. The rail-line has a large number of fallen trees, but is passable from the #5 mine to Lovers-Leap. The Downtown area is in good shape, but an unusual volume of water is coming out of the Wilson Portal. The Ticks are out, and so are the Mosquitos. Shaughnessy is impassable, due to a horrendous quantity of undergrowth and new deadfalls. Recommend avoiding Shaughnessy untill October.Happy touring. If I can arrange another saturday for a tour, I will post it on this site.
