GRANITE CREEK CEMETARY

Congradulations to Bob and Diane Sterne, of Coalmont. They recently completed the installation of new markers for the burial plots in the cemetary, and the errection of an information board which lists and maps the placement of the inturned. Good work. The cemetary is located on the Blakeburn Road just above the Granite Creek Ghost Town, and some 500 feet above the stop sign in front of the Granite Campsite and Ghost Town.

BLAKEBURN SAVED

The threat to Blakeburn has passed. Thanks to the efforts of Branda Gaul (Lower Similkameen Band), Nick Mills (Princeton Museum), Lori Thomas (Princeton Chamber of Commerce) and many other officials, steps have been put in place to prevent future logging and other intrusions upon the ghost town of Blakeburn. With the use of the authors Final Edition Blakeburn Grand Map and its GPS grid, the ghost town has been marked with new boundary flags. The map is also been made available as a bench mark for the issuing of any future work permits in the area. Thankyou, to all who who pushed so hard and quickly to get this done.

BLAKEBURN ROAD UPDATE

Recently, Compliance Coal and Energy, which operates the strip mine and power plant at the west end of Blakeburn, reduced the activity at their operation. Visitors to Blakeburn are encouraged to continue to use caution, however. Also, Logging trucks have been sparse this year but there appearence should also be bourne in mind. BLAKEBURN REPORT

ANOTHER MYSTERY SOLVED---For those familiar with the beautiful "Holmes Homestead", which until last year stood at the 3 mile mark up the Blakeburn Road, when it was suddenly raised, here is the truth. The prorerty was purchased by a family from the Lower Mainland, for the purpose of private residence. They had intended to retain the beautiful and historic home, but due to severe rat infestation and breakdown and the high cost of renovation, it was determined that raising the building was the only reasonable course of action. The family (name withheld by author for their privacy) has chosen to build 7 cabins on the large site. Their's is a large family, and by all indications, very good people. They intend to honor the history of the area, and may in time, erect some monument of sorts aside the Blakeburn Road in front of the site. Finally, the cabins are located out of view of the road, though the property may seem to be abandoned to passersby, it is not. I hope that folks will respect their privacy and property, thankyou.
