ANOTHER LAND MARK DISAPPEARS

Very recently, the large cast iron wheel in Downtown Blakeburn was removed. Obstencibly hauled away for scrap, by parties unknown. Has the publicity that this author brought to Blakeburn, aided in this artifacts disappearence? Probably! Disapointing as this event was to the ten tourists I met at Blakeburn on Oct. 21, 2006, one must bare in mind, that Blakeburn has been scavenged on and off for 66 years now. It is public domain. Though most would prefer that nothing ever changes, they always will. I hope that those who removed the wheel, received more cash value than the price of their gas. --- One bit of GOOD NEWS, they have temporarilly left behind the lower half of the wheel assembly. It was left, flipped over, revealing the stensiled identification marks. Presumed to be a Hoist, it turns out to be a 1918, Philadelphia, Crusher. Who would have thought?
